Chasing Backroads

Loving where we wander. Learning as we go.

Welcome, I’m Ashley

I like to think of myself as an explorer — definitely a wanderer — and someone who usually learns things the hard way. But above all else, I’m a mom to the best five kids, which means I get to experience life for the first time over and over again through their eyes.

Somewhere between leaving childhood and stepping into adulthood, I found myself chasing what I thought life was supposed to look like — but it always felt like I was reaching for something else. Over time, I kept coming back to the same thing: getting outside, trying something new, and saying yes — even when it felt inconvenient or imperfect.

This space came from that. A place to share what I’m learning along the way — the wins, the struggles, and everything in between.

So this is your nudge to just go.

To step outside and notice the way the wind moves through the trees, the way sunlight dances through the leaves.
To stand near a waterfall and feel it in your chest while the mist rushes over you.
To climb something — even something small — and realize how different the world looks from just a little higher.

It reminds you that everything keeps moving.
The hard seasons pass.
The good ones do too.

The trees stand through wind and hail, and still greet every sunrise. The rocks stay steady. The water carries life everywhere it goes.

And somehow, that makes everything feel a little steadier.

Maybe you don’t need to have it all figured out.
Maybe there’s nothing to figure out at all.

Maybe you just need to keep going —
and slow down long enough to let life fill your cup.

Around here, we wing it.

Imperfect trips.
Last-minute plans.
Learning as we go.

Because life has a way of life-ing, and getting outside has a way of bringing it all back into focus.

I hope you find inspiration here — and realize that you don’t need to do it perfectly or comfortably or conveniently.
